Greetings, here is a rather cute Christmas story-poem that I would like to share.
Enjoy.

GOOD OLE GRANDPA

'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch

The pond was froze over & so was the branch.

The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.

The kids were all home on vacation from school,

And happier young folks you never did see-

Just all sprawled around a-watching TV.

Then suddenly, some time around 8 o"clock,

There came a surprise that gave them a shock!

The power went off, the TV went dead!

When Grandpa came in from the shed

With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.

"just what I expected," they heard him remark.

"them power lines wires must be down with the snow.

Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."

"I'll hunt up some candles,"said Mom. "With their light,

And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."

The teenagers all seemed enveloped in gloom.

Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,

Uncased his old fiddle and started to play

That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.

Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew

Both Pop and the kids were singing it too.

They sang Christmas Carols, they sang, "Holy Night."

Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.

They played some Charades Mom recalled from her youth,

And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.

They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,

The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.

grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;

And when the kids were awakened, the power was on.

"The power company sure got the line repaired quick.,"

Said Grandpa, & no one suspected his trick.

Last night, for the sake of some old fashioned fun,

He had pulled the main switch- the old sun-of-a-Gun!

Not on Christmas Eve, but once or twice every month or two, we would have a no electricity family night.
Using candles & oil lamps, we would make popcorn the old fashioned way on the stove & play board games,
cards, checkers & chess. My youngest is 18 & has no problem dealing with lights out when the power goes off.
Looking back, we didn't do this often enough. Great poem, thank you & I will be sending it on.

Hello, tubecity, sounds like those no electricity family nights were a lot of fun. And they would be real learning
experiences for the youngsters. My hat is off to you for doing that.
You are welcome to the poem, and I'm glad you like it enough to pass it on.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I like this.

When my lights go out, it's not grampa, it's the ^&%&$$ light company turning it off for non-payment ! My bills for the past year have been in the 400$ range, every freekin month... :tongue3:

terryo, this is a thread about spending time with family and enjoying that special time.
rants are a different thread

I don't see that as a rant, rather an observation looking at the situation from a different perspective.

Cute story Ray.. Had that been my grandfather, I think I might have short sheeted him that night :laughing7:
