The good news is I found my first mercury dimes. Also found 2 wheats, a knob, narrow buckle?, a whatsit, oil or kerosene lamp knob and a W.V.&B. plate for the oil lamp. And lots of trash.
The bad news (that's really good news) is that this house has been there since 1671, it's along British retreat in 1778, they spent one week camped on this road, and George Washington came through to make sure they were gone. So I'm feeling really inadequate and lucky at the same time. However the owner said come back anytime, and there are a lot of other doors I need to knock on in that neighborhood. Thanks for looking.

You said first mercury dimes and that means plural. You got to like it. Looks like your in the right place. Love the history you added to your post. Congrats to you Mister.

You got three silver coins, I worked all day, you won!

Sometimes (read: most all of the time) you have to hit a spot a few times to start getting the older stuff. Wet ground conditions can help a lot. If nobody found those three Mercs, then I suspect that the deeper older) targets are there too. Go back, go slow, and dig all repeatable targets! If you dig 300 holes and don't find anything old, then perhaps we should reconsider.

Congrats on the finds, and best of luck to you sir!

Nice relic and coin hunt! :occasion14:

IMHO: I bet there is a lot of old relics and coins still waiting your coil. I believe you have not scratched the surface of the goodies that remain.

Thanks SD. I was really happy to find those mercs. Heading back there next week.

3 Mercs and you are left feeling inadequate?

Pardon my lack of understanding, that's what I call a freakin' awesome day on the shovel.

You're right Icewing. My problem is I get my hopes so high at a site like this, but I'll be back.

You had a hunt that produced some awesome finds. Congratulations! Very good site you have access to there. No telling what will end up under that coil next!!:icon_thumright:

Congrats on a great day! Any time you find more silver than wheats you're in a good spot. Keep hunting it and keep us posted!!

Hunt slow and low and at many different angle and weather. You’ll be surprised what you dig up!!!! I’ve hunted an 1820’s site and it’s still not hunted out!!!! GL!!!!

Congrats on your first Mercury Dimes, and having a great place to hunt. I'm sure you will find more there on return trips.
