Here is 2 others I have picked up in the last month. The stripped one is Banned Slate and the other is another flint cobble but a creamy brown. At least I think they are flint.

Those are some handsome rocks rock:icon_thumleft:.....this is a dumb question but "flint" is the rock that you can start fires with? If so then it's doubly nice & handy. :)

You are right! It is what many Native American Indians and others used to start fires with and some folks still use it to do so.

Yes but these well almost all dont show any work. The first one is a large scraper broken in half. All of these were found in a creek and without wetting them first you wouldnt be able to see the colors in them. They would be very dull dry.

Nice pieces. I found a lot of that kind of stuff in Missouri when I was a kid *and still have a bit of it in storage* :) Chert and banded flints are neat stuff. I tried chipping tools from it and yes it does make a spark when wacked :) smells like sulfur to. Never did try to light a fire though.

...well, it's good that you got them wet so we can enjoy the pretty colors ....have you ever tried using some mineral oil on some of the rocks rock? Show the color & last longer and not hurt the rock as far as I know.

Yeah I use to use it when I first started collecting. I dont use it anymore though. I pick rocks up when Im not finding any stone artifacts. But I still have them. I think the red flint is rare?
