Hello all! Got out to a few spots yesterday. The first location was a colonial homesite that belonged to a general in the Revolution. I found a shoe buckle, small brass buckle, a WW & co lock plate and some other iron items. For some reason the 3 copper items have a blackish patina, usually they come out green... Awesome to think that the General could have had that buckle in his shoe! The second site I hit produced very little so I ended the day at my great grandmas house & its still producing! I found a 1902 V nickel, 3 tokens (I've found a lot if these here), 5 wheaties (oldest 1916) and a Canadian penny. I also found this really decorative item that is marked French silver plate and has the letter N on the front. I thought it was a $ clip when I first dug it but after cleaning I'm thinking its some sort of suspender clip? Any insight would be appreciated. It was a beautiful day to be out although there's already ticks in the woods. Heading out to another colonial site soon. Thanks for looking & HH!

Wow that's really nice. I can't wait till I find something like that. I just find stuff that used to be in barns.

Thanks! Keep at it & it will come! I've been to the same site I found the buckle before & left empty handed a few times. Persistence pays off!

How long have you been at this?

Since I was 8 or 9 (29 now) but have been doing it really seriously for a little over a year. A good detector makes a world if difference.

Really like the little suspender clip if that is what it is.Ive got a friend in Mint Hill, not too far from you.

Nice relics... Keep up the good work.

Does your friend detect? If so I probably know them.

Very nice finds.I really like those buckles.

Cool finds !

That site definitely has colonial potential with those buckles. Hopefully buttons and coins are next. Good luck!

Thanks! This was actually one of the first sites I hunted when I was a kid (almost 20 years ago with my cheap detector) I have found a few buttons, part of an ornate shoe buckle, a King George II copper & some other cool relics. Surprisingly no silver has been found. It is possible its been hunted before. The guy who built the house (the General) was one of the richest men in the state and a very important figure during the Revolution and after. He owned 186000 acres of land and 99 slaves! This was a huge plantation. 2 regiments of continental troops also encamped there for 3 days after the battle of Guilford Courthouse, man I would love to locate the camp! Unfortunately a lot of the property is wooded and is LOADED with ticks when it gets warm so this may be my last trip there until Fall. Hunters are also an issue in the cool season. (Site is 3 hours from where I currently live) its hard hunting but still has great potential.
