good for 5 cents

Hi, Mans--the token was made for somebody with those initials. He knew where and who he was, and his customers knew where and who he was. But he may not have cared to have the Law know for certain where and who he was, and he for darn sure didn't care whether we would ever know anything at all about him!

This type of maverick token - I call them "initials only" - are nearly impossible to attribute with any degree of certainty. About the only real hope for them is to research the area where it was found for some business with an owner or manager with those initials. As far as dating it, it might help if you would post a picture. Initials only tokens have been used since the Civil War and probably even earlier. The Good For 5¢ would probably date it in the 20th Century, but that doesn't narrow things down a whole lot.
