Nice token.Looks like it has to be from the late 1800's or turn of the century, for a 1 cent lunch. The school was built around 1894 and it was a school for Afican American students.Lunch was 40 cents when I was in elem. in the 70's.Nice old token

I dont think the 1 cent is the price of the lunch. Not to question anyone, but I think it means "Good for Lunch"..and the value of the coin is 1 cent. Like paper coupons nowadays say value 1/100 of a cent. I'm not sure WHY they have to put that on but I think they HAVE to put that on coupons. Just an idea.

My kids used to complain that this would have been about 1? more than their school lunches were worth! I've asked the guy who is heading up the effort to compile a KY token catalog if he knows about this token - I sure don't. Most school lunch tokens date from post WWII and I suspect that the 1? value is meaningless as was suggested. The school sold lunch tokens for whatever the going rate happened to be and redeemed the tokens for a lunch. Even with a heavily subsidized school lunch program, 1? is pretty low! Johnn in ID
