This is the 10th large copper I've dug on this property.
Nice Dandy button.

Looks like you have a real good spot. Your location is not listed but I'd guess out east somewhere. Gary

What you found is not a pommel... Its a "guard".

Congrats on the great finds !

Looks like a Large Cent - can you read the date ?

PS...

I meant to add that guard looks like a "fencing" guard.

From size though it could be misleading me... could have been a small bladed item.

Here is a similar example of my first thought...

I also though a bit small for that and thought maybe a escutcheon?

Nice day, a large cent is on my dream find list.

I'd say a very good day. The sword guard is a lovely piece. You don't ever see those posted. What was the date on the LC. Can't quite tell from the pic. Congrats!

The large sent wasn't great but not bad either.
I was able to get a date of1825.

Any idea on age from those of you in the know?
I was thinking not later than early 1800s, but I'm far from an authority.

I assume you are asking about the guard... may I see the back please.

I will just say this... I need some close ups of both sides... as much detail as possible... also a good wash prior would help.

You might like to know... IF... repeat IF... I can pin this down as real... IE: not a repop... then you may really have something there.

I do not... like jumping too soon on here... was kinda kicking back on it really... but since no one has added... I will.

PS...

I already formed an opinion from first glance... but refrain again from saying anything until more conclusive of a direction can be determined.

PSS... I think your guard is from a "smallsword"..."rapier".

Age... to be determined... but IF real that sucker could easily be 16-1700's... no problem.

The first pic is the back.
The house dates to the early 1700s.

2 3/8 by 2 5/8 inches.
Weighs exactly 1.7 ounces.
Solid brass.

This was the first hunt with the new equinox!

Great finds. Congrats.
