With only three hrs to spend today the field was chosen right. Pure luck. It had a late sugar beet harvest recently and is one of the last fields available in the moment.

Buttons, bronze rivet

Roman coins with one nice bronze and a silver Antonius Pius (otwbttc). A first to me with two headed sides.

Most likely the find of the day (also otwbttc) merowingian four way strap junction. Very little gold gilt left.

Super Finds - Wow! Congratulations!:hello2:

Very nice finds! Have you identified the Roman silver?

Iowa Dale

Excellent day (OTWBTTC):laughing7:

I only have one double headed Roman Silver - Super Cool, for years I wanted one, congrats on that one!

I've had one of those 4 way strap junctions, pretty sure they are circa 13-14th C horse harness related.

The bronze rivet/stud is Roman.

What period is that button, 16th C?

I only had a quick look but I think it's this one (I think its the same double header we had! I'll check later...):

Denarius. AD 140-144
Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar.
ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P COS III, bare head of Pius right / AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG P II F COS,
Bare-headed, draped bust of Aurelius right.

Just checked & we are Double Header Twins....

I always liked these double head coins. Too scarce to think about finding one....now time was right after many blanks this fall.
You could be right with the late medieval date for the strap junction. First late medieval find on this field as finds stop in 8th to 9thC.
Thanks for IDing the rivet, wasn't 100% sure. The floral design button has a flat back and dates into late 16th- early 17thC. The other has no decoration and the back is slightly dished. According to the books it's the same time frame. I'd say by the other finds you get on sites with many of these floral buttons mid 17thC.

Perfect match. Your memory where you've seen/read/dug something is scary.

Fantastic finds! Some great coins! Thank you for sharing.

I know weird it only applies to detecting finds, my exam results were average at best.

Westfront,

Outstanding hunt, you found some very nice silver and Roman finds. The merowingian four way strap junction is especially interesting - how old might it be. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Wow! Wonderful recoveries. . . I wish we had fields like that around Chicago (sigh)
