Good day on our family ranch!

So I started the day planning on Dove hunting on our South Texas ranch. My dad and I started talking and told me there was once an old bank on the North side of our ranch, so I decided to take my new AT pro out. Within a few min my VDI was reading 99 I started digging and found my first Morgan silver dollar, then another a few feet away. After finding several others I decided to look around some old rocks piled up in a perfect square. Then I found this coin dated 1780. I have never seen anything like it. My great great grandfather owned the bank and was from Germany along with many of the settlers nearby. Could this be a German coin? I think I may have to drive back out and check some other sites on the ranch tomorrow. Found coins but no dove.

Great story and neat finds! Your large silver coin is an Austrian Maria Theresa Taler. Many were made well after the 1780 date.

It's a 1898 and it does have a "s" mint mark

NB texan , These found in a single hunt clearly qualifies them for a BANNER nomination ! Most of us will never find a single silver dollar , much
less multiple silver dollars in one hunt - add to that the Maria Theresa thaler - and BANNER is a no brainer !!!!

A simple day planned to do some dove hunting, a comment from Dad, the comment turns the mind, the detector comes out and though no doves were had you have a day of memories shored up by some stupendous coins and one your Grandfather may have touched. That's about as perfect a day as one could expect.
