Good, Cheap Beginners MD?

Hi all,
I've had a metal detector before, but that was a crappy one when I was little. I'm looking for one (maybe for Christmas) that would be a decent one that isn't overly complicated or expensive. I'm hoping for around $100, but I can do more (I know thats not much).
I found this one on the bountyhunterstore site, would you recommend it?

If that's all you can afford then go for it, it's good for tot lots and local parks and it'll find alot of clad. BTW-you can get it a little cheaper on ebay (brand new)- http://tinyurl.com/23vj73c If you can afford a little more then Garrett's ACE 250 is a decent beginner machine from what I hear. What kind of detecting are you planning on doing mainly?.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely check it out. As for the kind of detecting I want to do, I really just want to do it for fun, but I'd like to find more old (maybe CW or Revolutionary War stuff) since I live in a 200 year old house on an older property about 15 minutes from Valley Forge and half an hour from Brandywine. So I'm basically smack in the middle of Civil War and Revolutionary War territory. Also, if it matters, the ground around my house is pretty normal, but down about 2 feet it turns into 100% clay. I've never really found anything past that layer, but I found some old glass flasks and iron clutter while digging in the garden.

You can get a new Tesoro Compadre delivered for $150. I think the Tesoro would be a better and deeper machine, but I've never owned a Bounty Hunter. Read up on the Compadre.

I would recommend the Compadre by Tesoro. It is very easy to operate and is user friendly. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what this detector can do.

The Tesoro sounds good, didn't know they were that inexpensive. I'm sure it would work better for the area/s you want to use it for. Sounds like it gets pretty deep too for an entry level machine. I'm waiting on my first beach machine to get delivered for Christmas, a Garrett Sea Hunter II, I can't wait.

Hey, welcome to a great hobby. The Ace 250 is tops as far as I am concerned. It does a great machine for the parks, plus a buddy of mine found a CANNONBALL with his Ace at Boca Chica beach. For the money it cannot be beat. Brand new you can get one for $212.00 at Kellyco.

Or you could try and get one on Ebay for as little as $43 bucks. Yes I saw one there for this amount but bidding had not finished and I doubt it will go for that little.
