Good book about the past.

Needing to understand how ppl lived over 100 years ago, in a book by wc Jameson he mentions things about ppl meeting to play cards at boat crossings springs etc. He gives a few tidbits here and there but i think i could get some better ideas of where to search if i knew how ppl lived back then. Any suggestions?

See if your local library has a history book on the county you live in. We have a history book written in 1904 in the county of Cecil County MD. It is now a reference book and it can't leave the library now. A new copy can be bought though. I read it years ago, it told you where beaver trappers had a cabin in the woods near streams, and plenty of good info like that.

You also need to look at old maps from the time frame you are interested in or as close to it, because things change location like, rivers, roads, houses etc. GL. HH!

Ive got thomas p terrys treasure atlas but not sure how to locate the ghost towns listed I cant find any info on them, he just says things like wnw of such and such, not sure if they were mining camps or how to find out or how accurate his books are but many ppl seem to think there legit.
