Good, Bad, or Fair? (pics)

Well, I bit the bullet and went out to a few thrift stores just to kill some time. I found about 45 of these "crushed pecan shell" figures that were painted by a local East Texas artists in the 1990s (most--a few in the 1980s). Well, I paid $100 for the lot.


Good, Bad, or Fair? Not sure there is really a market for these, but I will list them on ebay. Any advice on what I should "try" to list (price, by lot, or by individual piece) as this will be my first rodeo on ebay.

I don't know about the modern made figurines, but there is a good market for older African American memorabilia.

I like them, they should do well on ebay, they are different and unique. You may want to try a couple as individual auctions vs the whole lot to see how they do. List at a price that is fair to YOU. Description will be everything, so put what information you know about them to include size (how tall they are etc). I hope you do well on them.

You should do very well. You will need to search feeBay for key words to use in your description. Black, Americana, crushed pecan shell, etc

this one didn't have a good description, but then again "drummer boy figurine" could have been the hot description for drummer boy collectors.

you might list them in groups, choir , girl toilet, jazz, singer , musician, etc. black piano player, girl with doll.

google stuff until you find what the type of people that collect these figurines call them. It might take you a couple of hours, it will be worth it.

Once you get your headline figured out, write your story. highly collectible Americana made in the ....., with crushed pecan....., rare (if they are).... tell all about them.

I am very green at this ebay thing. Generally I am into coins, but I just had to have these--temporarily. I am an American historian so I know that there are folks out there that might appreciate these--but you never know.

I also bought 12 "Children of the World" dolls today. Paid too much for the lot: $ $40.00 I seen ebay sale them for $3.50 each. I will learn my lesson once I am "burnt."

Glad to see you over here Apush. I like your new avatar pic. I 'm a CRH'r too, but I don't post too often over there lately. I think you did real good. The figures will make up for the Dolls of the World Collection. I've been there and done that one myself in the past (lol). I would list them as "Black Americana Folk Art Crushed Pecan Shell Figures". There are collectors for everything. These are unique and they have character, I think would sell well. As stated, make sure you are very detailed in your description, including "hand painted" and "individually hand made" (if they are). List some info on the artist if you have any, list any and all condition issues (if any). You paid $2.22 a piece, I would start at at least $4.99 each, plus actual shipping cost based on location (add some weight to make up for the box/packing materials). Do you have an accurate scale? If you print shipping labels via ebay, delivery confirmation is only .15, versus .80 at the P.O.. I would start out at listing a few individually, just to see how they do.
List them here- Collectibles > Cultures & Ethnicities > Black Americana > Figures & Sculptures
Take many photos, they are free in that category.
