goldust question

newbie here,

I went out yesterday and got a signal on my detector,

i didn`t find any nuggets but the signal was still there,

so i took the dirt back to the house nd started panning it,

it has very small gold dust grains,

my question is this,

how do i collect the grains from the pan?

they are very small and difficult to grab,

You need a small flexible bottle called a snuffer. (was going to post ebay link but its against policy- just search 'prospecting snuffer'.)

Your metal detector shouldnt pick up on gold dust , though it may have hit on a pocket of black sand AND gold dust.

But I had this same problem , since most of the gold in Ohio is just powder or specks. You should get a snuffer bottle and a concentrator or seperator of some type. Read through this thread , it will help.

Best advice ever from LnAB-keep at it and that fun in the sun will turn golden as experience adds up. You'll get there ifn' ya just keep them ears open and most of all join a local yokel club as much to be gained through group activities and righteous mining folks to meet and safety in numbers--tons a au 2 u 2 -John
