goldbugpro large coil vs 5 inch

What are you calling a large coil and what are you hunting?

I have the 10" and 5", you'll lose 2-4" putting the 5" on looking for coins and rings but gain a lot better resolution in separating targets.

If your looking for small gold nuggets, the smaller coil will detect nuggets the larger coil misses.

I carry both everywhere I go.

If you go over trashy places you have hunted hard with a larger coil you will swear that stuff grew back. The larger coil covers more and goes deeper, but I always revisit productive areas with a small coil to get what was masked in the trash with the large one. The best yard I have ever hunted was my ultimate learning experience. I declared it hunted out. It had produced coins beyond belief. Let a friend talk me into trying a small coil and going back over it. Nothing short of amazing. The home was built in the late 1700's and still occupied. VERY rare for TN. The same family had occupied it since the mid 1800's, and until the current owner had never had a generation with less than 8 children. I literally added about 30% to my total finds by hunting the heavy trash areas again. Yep, ya loose a bit of depth but not proportionate. Just guessing but I would say the average 4 inch coil will go about 75% as deep as an 8.
