Hello All,

I was in the desert today and came upon a slab of bedrock... A sparkle on the rock caught my attention.

The rock is NOT wet. It hasn't rained in a while. That spot looks wet to me but its dry as a bone.

Does this look like tiny bits of gold?

Hard to tell from the pictures (although I am using my phone so the screen is small). Could be pyrite, aka fools gold. When I was a kid I used to live in Huachuca City and used to hike around in the desert and find fools gold all over the place, especially in the graves on old rail roads. I've found fools gold nuggets the size of eggs on those old rail roads.

:coffee2: :hello:
definitely pyrite, scrape some off then crush it. then put it on a piece of paper, use a knife and smear it on the paper, tip the paper and if you are left with a black streak it is pyrite.
if not gold is $1440 per ounce , waa hoo :read2:

Looks like Iron Pyrite to me from the photo's .
It would not hurt to check as you can have gold mixed in with Pyrite , but it is not the norm .

I looked at it under magnification and its surely not gold. Thanks guys!

Well back to searching I go. :icon_thumright:
