Gold vien found. Is this a good one?

I found this a number of years ago but revisted the area recently on a trip back east and it hasn't changed at all.

While gold panning a certain creek extensively I came upon a vien of quartz that kept getting thicker as I dug down. At least 6 inches wide. I sent a sample to an assayer and it showed 1/4 ounce of gold per ton and 3/4 ounce of silver per ton. I have always wondered if I should have pursued this furthur. It's on private land and I would assume the first step would be to contact the land owner. First of all is that a good assay?

"I sent a sample to an assayer and it showed 1/4 ounce of gold per ton and 3/4 ounce of silver per ton"

are you sure they said "ounces" and not "grams" per ton. If indeed it is "ounces" it sounds like a mighty rich vein to me.

Yes. On the assay it was listed as .25 OZ Gold per ton and .75 OZ silver per ton. There was also copper and some other elelments.
I'm in Oregon now and plan to move back east next year. If this is worth while I'll will pursue it furthur. I still remember exactly where it is down to the exact spot it is in the ground. It's in Virginia.

I'll give you something to relate to . The Homestake Mine in Lead SD gets right at 1 OZ per 6,000 pounds of dirt processed .The fly in your ointment seems to be that you must dig down . The rules , regulations , not to mention the insurance nightmare would be daunting . You would be better off talking to the owner about a split and trying to high grade there with small equipment . Hand tools , rock crusher and some kind of separation operation . After, say one month you could add up your profit versus time and money . At this point your options would be clear . Stop , keep going , get better equipment or ..........

I assume when you mean contact the owner, you mean to offer to buy the land.
Just checking.

i know its been several years ago that this was posted, but, before you go any further you need to do a tilte search to see if the current landowner still owns/has the mineral rights to the subsurface minerals. all the states are different and a lot of them in the midwest have been sold a long time ago.

Its a great assay.

The other point I would bring up, besides what has already brought up, is this:

If you are talking placer "vein", was it "panned down" by you first (in other words - concentrated), and if it is lode, after it was crushed, was it concentrated before the assay.

Only you know the answer to that - but if you are assaying concentrates, its not a valid number.

I live in Virginia and have probably panned in that creek in Central Virginia. I have seen gold in the Bedrock! You may send me a PM if you would like to discuss some possibilities. Thanks, RuffandTuff.
