Hi all,

I just found a gold Spanish coin from 1817, the era of Ferdinand VII. The face value of the coin says 8 escudos. The mint place is abbreviated as F.M. Does anybody know how much it is worth?
Furthermore, what is the best place to sell it? Online or to a store?

I would appreciate if somebody even could tell me, his experiences of selling old coins.

Thanks in advance! coin back.jpgcoin front.jpg

need a few pictures please to verify your coin

Welcome to Treasure Net !!
Your coin sounds a little strange, but that is just my natural skepticism leaking through.
The FM you see are the initials for one of the Mexican assayers; but not on 8 Escudos coins.
What is the backstory to your finding the coin?
As Todd mentioned above, need to see close up pics of both sides of the coin.
Don.........

Hi I updated the pictures of the coin!

Hey Don and Todd,
pics are available. Thank you!

It doesn't look golden because of the flash of my camera.

Similar but not the same. On the known coins check out the "bands" on the shoulder with each having three dots. On OJUICE's coin there are none. At first glance it appears to be a cast brass repro. Hopefully I'm wrong.

OJUICE try taking photos with your camera at an angle to the coin so you don't get the flash bouncing back into the camera.

The second 1 in 17 looks homemade and the 8 not much better. Craftsmanship on the numbers doesnt seem to match that of the coat of arms / rest of the detail.

Ok, guys here is a pic with natural light. And don't worry it is not brass I tested it and its gold.

If your coin is genuine, which I can't confirm, the value would be around 1700$ to 1900$ in your condition.

Horseshit. Horseshit. Is what i found today. !

ha ha, there just seems too much wrong with it. why is the banding around the edge offset? Is it suposed to be cast or stamped? All a bit confusing...

That a pretty nice coin.

I can't say one way or another whether the coin is genuine but if genuine, it was struck with Dies. As far as the edge or in this case, the ticking which makes up the rim on these coins being offset, I will just say that is not out of the norm for any struck coins. Heck, throughout the history of all coins struck with Dies by hand or by machinery, it is a fairly high probability that more than 50% of all coins struck, were struck off-center some slightly...some moderately and some severely. Also, I must say that if the coin is a counterfeit, then it is one hell of a nice one!
