Greetings everyone! Finally getting around to making an appearance back here at TNet Central. I've been amiss, well.. busy anyway. I've been working entirely too much and not playing nearly enough. It's a conspiracy I tell you! Between my bosses and Mother Nature I've just not been able to get a break lately. Seems like evertime I get some time off from work, the weather stinks, be it too cold, or snowing, or raining, or tornadoes!... or some combination of all the above. I got out and played with my detector a couple of weeks ago, even if it was snowing. Yesterday I got a chance to get out and detect again.. but it rained like a freakin' monsoon! Still though, I managed to search a couple of elementary school playgrounds (tot lots) between gales. My day was short though, between the rain and the fading daylight do to the overcast. Today I got out again, after a doctor's appointment and several errands that I had to run first. I hit two city parks (playgrounds) and two elementary school playgrounds in a neighboring town... where my errands took me. It was gloomy all day today, but other than a few hints of fine powdery snow early on, it was relatively dry. At least water wasn't falling from the sky, the creeks, streams and storm run off drains were all swollen and threatening their embankments however. Remnants from yesterday's monsoon rainfall no doubt. The woodchips were a little soggy in some places, but they weren't frozen solid. Yesterday they were VERY soggy but they still yielded up some treasure.
Day one, Noah's Flood Revisited. I didn't see any arks or even animals filing by two by two, but I still had to wonder if this rainfall was some sort of reenactment of that biblical event. At least there was no lightning. That MIGHT have deterred me from detecting, might have. I had a bit of wander lust yesterday and longed for new scenery, so my meanderings led me to a neighboring county and their community parks.. alas, the rain... Rather than just pack it all in and head for home, I decided to swing by the local elementary schools and check out there tot lots (two schools, two playgrounds) The first school was also my first break in the weather, which I capitalized upon. breaking out the detector and donning my trusty kneepads and some well worn gloves I set out for the woodchips. I found the usual junk, pull tabs, pencil erasure barrels (on the pencils and off), zipper pulls.. LOTS of them! and some steel pellets or BB's maybe? I know they were a pain in the keester to actually spot, they rang up on the detector as nickles but they were almost invisible in the woodchips. I only saved three of them. I also found a small butterfly ring, a tiny little heart charm, a battery <rolling eyes> some beaded chain, and a few tokens. Oh and a couple of rings were found as well. And clad. Lots of pennies, some dimes, nickles and some quarters to keep things interesting. I kind of lost track of what exactly I found and how much coin I found at which school playground, but between the two I found $4.67 in clad, some tokens, a ring, a charm.. and a longing for warm dry clothes and surroundings. Not so terribly disappointed then, I called it a day and headed home. Hoping tomorrow.. err.. TODAY.. would prove to be better. Here's a few pics from "DAY ONE"

Day TWO... more tot lots, more treasures.. more confusion.. more concern!?!?!... MORE BLING!
As I said, after a doctors appointment this morning I had errands to run that put me in a neighboring town. While there I decided to detect some playgrounds (parks while the kiddies were IN school, and the school yards later in the day after classes had let out) One thing about a dreary day.. there usually not anyone around to get in the way or follow you around asking "Hey Mister!.. You finding anything with that thing?" Of course, had there been, I'd have had to answer "YES!" Today began with the usual pull tabs, a couple of zipper pulls, some metal buttons, and clad.. clad.. LOTS of clad. GOLD!! SILVER!!!! RIFLE SHELLS!!! ?? What the.. Again with the high powered rifle shells! Are these things like status symbols or something now? I'm finding them everywhere! It's enough to make someone find religion. Which is fortunate, because I did that today too! I found a nice big silver crucifix buried in the woodchips.. and on the other side of the same tot lot, I found a fairly hefty chain.. gold.. or at least gold plated? Doesn't look plated to me, but it may not be a very high karat bit of chain though. I'm thinking that the crucifix was probably on that very chain till one of the links got pulled apart. Exciting to find though! The chain isn't marked or stamped anywhere, but the crucifix is stamped. I can't tell if it says 925 or 325..see for yourselves..

More clad, more junk, then a ring! GOLD, stamped 14k, though I'm not sure what kind of stone is in the set. Check it out.

I found more clad after that, and two more rings! One was a cheapy looking little thing, definitely "junque".. the other was one of those fad "link" pieces.. you know, the links you string together to make bracelets or necklaces or in this case, a small ring. The links are everything from plain metal to set with stones or painted with figures, cartoons, charms, etc. This little ring had dogs on it. Go figure!
I found some other interesting coins as well.. two foreign coins but I could only identify the origins of one of the coins.. a Panamanian centesimo.. the other I couldn't make out.. I'd ask if anyone out there reading this might have a clue as to it's origins, but I'll have to put it's picture on a second post or a "reply" to this post and include the pictures.. as I'm about out of room on this post. I've got one pic left for this post... the "everything" pic.
There are a few other items that I'd like to share in this post, but the pictures will have to be in a "reply" to this post to follow directly.. One is a rather bawdy little coin, or token that was quite a shock to discover in a schoolyard playground. I'm sure some kid's dad is wondering what happened to his novelty "flipping" coin ... you know.. "heads I win.. Tails you lose" <grin> You'll have to see the pics. Another item is this HUGE pull tab... ok, it's not really a pull tab, but its shape is reminiscent of one. I'm thinking it's some sort of horse tack, a hooked loop. Check out the "reply" to this post following.
Today's clad count was $8.01, not a bad day at all, two day total was $12.68, not counting the foreign coins or the tokens.. or the GOLD and SILVER! You got to love any day you can get out and play with the detector, but to find gold and silver and lots of clad too!? Yeah! I got MY fix for a while!
Happy Hunting Everyone !!
