Had a tough work week of business being on the road, no time to detect and I was in some old areas. Also got some bad news at work, half of our staff was just laid off, I made the cut and will be moving close to the French border to continue employment. On the up side, the region I will be working in offers great detecting that dates back to the Bronze Age. I got out today on my home fields for about 3 hours 34F/2C brrr. Thought it would be a Ho Hum hunt but, the targets just kept coming and I found several interesting relics! I was concentrating on those deep faint signals and this is what came up. A pewter bell about 2.5” tall, it is broken and junk but still interesting.

I’m not sure what the top piece is, found it in two pieces. A canvas button, a Maxwell instant coffee tin before it was good to the last drop, circa 1950s General Foods. A piece of metal with Fleur De Lis within a Fleur De Lis and a bar that held 5 American bullets.
22Dec06relics.jpg

A few more relics. I found several harmonica reeds.
22Dec06relics2.jpg

Two horse bridal collets as I think they are called.
22Dec06collets.jpg

A religious medallion, a lead seal with a B on it and what looks like a cane tip.
22Dec06relmed.jpg

Five buttons, one military with a 3 and crossed cannons and one gold plated with the Bavarian lion holding a sword, a crown above the lion’s head.
22Dec06buttons.jpg

Reverse of the gold button shows a crown and a legend of “Fuer koenig und vaterland” or “for king and fatherland”. This is the best gold plated button I have found.
22Dec06buttrev.jpg

Three coins, a 1924 bronze 2 Pfennig, 1923 aluminum 200 Mark and an 1807 silver 6 Kreuzer.
22Dec06coinsO.jpg

Date side of the coins.
22Dec06coinsR.jpg

A small brooch that looks like a 5 leaf clover, the leaves are glass and fell out when I rinsed it off. Looks like it had stones all around the perimeter. It still retains a small amount of gold plating.

The Bavarian lion made of lead or a mix of lead and zinc. He is a little bent but I thought it was an awesome find. He is leaning on a musket ball, the Dime for size. I have found many buttons and coins with this style of lion on them. HH and Happy Holidays, Mike

Wow, love the bell, I don't think I have ever found a pewter bell. I have found lots of sleigh bells though.

I always enjoy looking at your finds. Wish I could help you hunt in Germany. That would be fun!

Re: Gold, silver and the Bavarian lion...

Great finds! FYI the slogan "Good to the last drop" was coined after Rosevelt (FDR) had eaten at The Maxwell House resturant. After having the signature house coffee he was heard to say the coffee was so good that it was good to the last drop and the owner from that point on sold the coffee that way. I thought it was a neat story courtesy of....Paul Harvey,,,Good Day!

HH/Merry Christmas

Re: Gold, silver and the Bavarian lion...

Thanks for the nice comments! Here's an update, the round thing in the picture with the harmonica reeds (far right) has been IDed as a Prussian grenade from the mid/late 1800s. Trying to find a picture of one and doing some research on it, seems to be too small for a grenade. HH, Mike

Way to go! Looks like we both will be moving! Hope for some new things too! Way to go and good luck!

Not a Grenade...

This is definitely a knob and not a grenade! I found the bottom part on the same hunt and dug it out of my recycling bucket, not sure if they go together as it is two different metals but they do match up. The dime is for size. Sorry about the hype and HH, Mike
