Detector(s) used
Nox 800 AT Max, Mine lab se pro/ Teknetics 7500 / teknetics 8000 / fisher m-scope (aquanut) 1280x/2ea compass relic magnum 6 /compass yukon 77b (professional) /compass yukon 71b
Went to a lot of different old areas to try, but ended up back at the old inn spot that is now an old park. I got a silver dime reading and dug down about 10" to find part of a sterling old spoon. A little while later the detector sounded off with a penny reading, and after digging a 9" hole, this button came out. I think it looks like a Civil War button with catches and hooks. The 14K ring came out without a diamond :'(, but 14k is 14k! The gold ring had a 20 reading on the scale ( tin foil) at 8". Also found a 1909 and 1918 Lincoln cents deep in the ground and one wheat - 1950S in the wood chips (like new). I followed all this up with a Sacajawea dollar, a gold looking heavy religious medallion and about $4 in clad. Thanks for looking!

Great day hunting. Not sure about the button cover. I am betting some of these guys will know.
Nice finds. Congratulations.

Goesforever recently found a button with the same kind of back piece..i will be interested to see what info comes out about it......

Its not a button but was actually worn on a belt. I have a Navy that I thought was a button too but it was worn on a belt also. Sometimes there would be a collection of these showing military button fronts all assembled on one belt. Its old but not a button.
