It is yellow gold has one mark 9999 then what I think reads MINENGOO 20. Mark was struck 3 or more times so hard to read

Is 9999 the purity? Is the 20 wieght in grams? I know the "K" marks but this just says 9999.

Anybody know that maker mark?

After three different acid test from three different agents the conclusion is it is over 22K but less than 24K (pure), looks to be custom or hand made so it is some weird grade of gold. I will take any of those I can find! :tongue3:

Re: Gold Ring with confusing markings

Pure gold is generally stamped 9999. It is the purity of the gold, as a decimal fraction .9999 means the ring is 99.99% pure. I'm somewhat surprised because pure gold is too soft for jewelry, especially for rings.

Could you look at the letters again to make sure it is stamped MINENGOO. I'm wondering if it might be stamped: MINE GOLD or MINED IN GOLD. It could be a 'mammy made' gold ring from a miner. It would be nice if you can take a clear pic of the letters.

SUPER find  Breezie

The ring was syamped 3 times so the mark is really hard to read as you can see. I'll get my loop on it as well. It is really heavy for ot size and the color is very rich and a deep gold tone I don't see on the other gold rings I've found. i'll see what i can get out of it

Is it silver colored where it has been stamped? It's hard to tell in the photos if it's the metal or the lighting.

No silver it is the polish my wife used on it the minute I showed it to her, just in the low spots in the stamps.

I don't have a scale for weight, sorry.

Okay, I think I have it figured out: Your ring is marked: MINE NACO. Naco is a town in Arizona in Cochise County that has lots of gold mines, so maybe your ring was made from the gold of Naco. GREAT RING, Breezie

Thanks for the ID Brezzie! I love the color of it. Heavy little guy. Does the 20 mean its weight? Or maybe a mold number?

Thanks to all and as usual... :notworthy: :headbang: you guys rock!

I don't know what the 20 means, but it could be weight. You might want to do some research on the internet for vintage gold jewelry made in Naco, and if you want to know the weight, a jewelry or pawn shop person could weigh it for you. Breezie

I think it is more likely to say "mindanao" as in the Phillippines. Knowing the orientals penchant for high karat gold and the style of the font. Naco AZ is just a border town, not much there, but there was plenty of gold mined within 50 miles of there. Anyways, just my opinion.
