So, I actually didn't find this today, but found it when I was a little girl, helping my mom plant flowers. I still have it to this day, and going through my jewelry, remembered that I have it! Being little when I found it, I never thought much of it, but now that I have this website to inquire about things on, I thought I'd send it out to see if anyone had an ideas on it. There is something engraved inside the band, however, I can not read it for the life of me! I attempted to use a microscope (nothing really fancy), but still couldn't see it. Most of the stones have also fallen out. Any ideas/info would be welcomed! Thanks! :cat:

Nice looking ring! Must have been a thrill to find that in the dirt as a little girl! Did that inspire you to get into detecting? I'd take it to a jeweler to see if it's real gold and if the stones are real. Can you see any kind of carat marking inside the ring? Regardless it certainly looks nice! :icon_thumleft:

Welcome to the forum! I know nothing about jewelry but I'm sure someone else will be along before too long who does! I think TNET member, Breezie knows about jewelry. If you have more info on where you found it it may help date it if it is an older piece. Can you take a close up photo of the engraving inside? May be able to be seen better when you can zoom in on the computer.

I agree with Erik, take it to your local jeweler and they usually test them free if you ask nicely. If they won't do it for free take it to another jeweler or pawn shop. I found a lot of cool things like IH pennies old marbles, etc, when helping in gardens when I was a child also. I think that was a contributing factor in my getting a metal detector soon after they became commercially available.

Thanks for the responses!

There is a marking on the band, however, I can not see it and, even with a magnifying glass, it's next to impossible to read because there are like little dots where the ring corroded (I'm guessing).

I can't get a good up close picture of it. :sadsmiley:

Other than taking it to have it tested, here's a trick I picked up during my photography days. Get a removable wide angle camera lens, 35mm or less, reverse it, and use it like a loupe. With a 35mm you get about 12X. Works well and gives you a use for that old Nikon equipment you have hanging around. Nice ring, but your close up of the inside of the band is too blury to see anything. Welcome to Tnet!

Based on what you are saying (corrosion), my gut tells me the ring is gold plated and the stones are probably not real (at least the diamonds)-- the fact that so many have fallen out also lends itself to this theory as real diamonds do fall out, but typically they are secured a bit better to stop you from losing lots of them. I'd have a jeweler look at it anyway and you should be able to get a definitive answer. Regardless it's still a beautiful ring and the fact that you've kept it over the years means that it's special to you which is what counts. :icon_thumright:

It's a beauty! I bet when you found it all those years ago your eyes were as big as saucers. Looks very real to me...take it to a jeweler to find out for certain.

Thanks so much for all the info! I am going to work on getting a better picture of the inside of the band, and hopefully get it checked out soon! I'll let you know when I find out!!

Thanks again!

Looks promising to me.
