I found this, what appears to be gold pendant, yesterday at a local park. Like the proverbial duck, it walks like and talks like gold, but has no "karat" mark on the back. Does gold jewelry always have a " karat" mark??

Cool .. Have it tested .. Nice looking grouping of goodies!

no. i have seen older gold with no markings. though it is rare. testing it is the only way to know. good luck!

Great finds--have the "gold" tested.

All the best,

Lanny

Looks like you had a really awesome day!! Congrats...and like others have said on here...get it checked out and fill us in on the outcome. Happy hunting!! :icon_thumleft:

Nice Digs!
the wear on the pendants eyelet say gold,
plated base metals don't wear as easily as gold, especially Hi Karat
and a close exam of the area should show consistent color.
the look of the back is kinda weird :icon_scratch:
An all metal test kit runs 13 bucks on epay, everyone should have one

Often the karat marking is on the bale (bail?), but that's what appears to have broken off. I agree with others that is looks gold.

Agreed, gold.. in the past year ive found a couple gold items that didn't have a purity marking

looks like a winner to me. the theme of the engraving makes me think it may be from some place like Thailand and therefore may be a high karat gold like 22k. it shows wear to the loop from being on a chain
