Gold Ore Blasting and Processing, Southern Oregon Gold Mine

Besides silicosis, these guys are coating their lungs with thick oil from the compressed air line oiler while drilling, and lining their lungs with corrosive ammonium nitrate. Instead of using a blasting box with an electric cap to initiate the face shot, they use a fuse/black-wick ignitor. Reliable and guessing when the shot goes off... well, not a great safety decision. My guess is that they think that the blast is supposed to reduce the muck to "gravel" or pea size... it's usually used as a means to reduce solid face rock to a mucking size, then reduce it with a crusher. Each shot they do is costing way more than it should. From my experience they are really overloading the boreholes with way too much powder. Did anyone see a ground wire/cable on their ANFO pot?

Don't worry - wait until a mine inspector pays them an unexpected visit.
