purchased this ring at the flea market the seller said it was 925 silver and that it was in many bar fights (would explain al lthe bends)
anyways i got it home and looked at it closer and relized it said 526 not 925 926 is the stamping for 22k isnt it? i may be wrong but what do you think? i will be cleaning it up and adding it to my vintage ring collection

If you turn it over it could read 925. But to be honest the way you have it, the 2 and the 5 are shaped more like a properly formatted two and five. The only gold I've seen stamped with numbers had 585, for 58.5% gold = 14k; and 375, for 37.5% gold = 10k.

Is that a James Avery stamp above the numbers? The James Avery mark is a J A with a three stemmed candle stick. If it is James Avery, you could go by one of their stores or contact them online.

When I flip it over the 9 is correct but the 5 and 2 are upside down I can read the stamp above it but it looks like James Avery

22K is usually reserved for medallions, any Karat type can be designated by number, IE .750 on 18K.
Everyone should have a metals test kit, 15 bucks and you'll always know...

I do have a acid test kit I just wanted to see what you guys thought and if its gold plated silver I don't want to mess up the ring by fileing into the ring

If it was silver but gold plated seeing how much wear it has wouldnt you be able to see the base metal by now?

I found a 22k bangle bracelet a number of years ago and the only marking it had was 916.

well i asked the person i bought it from today and they said it was bought as .925 silver 25 years ago at a jewlery store so they kinda took it for granted that it was silver.

i need some help im confused! i did a acid test on it i scratched it on the stone put the 10k acid on it and it stayed for about 30 seconds but then started to slowly disappear i hit it with the 14k acid and it disappeared right away so does that mean its sterling silver plated in gold? i took a closer look at the marks on it and next to the number stamp it says mex i am guessing for mexico and some lettering above the number but i cant make it out i took a closer look at the gem and i am pretty sure its a real diamond there is a crack going though it but its not on the surface its inside the gem

Gold plated silver, also known as vermeil. If it was 10k or more the mark would have lasted under the acid test. Sorry.
