I'm wondering if someone can help me I'd this gold medallion. It's about 122 grams. Thank you! IMG-20200615-WA0005_1.jpgIMG-20200615-WA0006_1.jpg

I hope it's real since it weighs 4.5 oz.

I have no experience with these at all but the writing looks Greek.
Could that be "ZEUB" or "ZEUS" in the center?
Does the Chariot scene have Two contenders battling to succeed a dead ruler?

Can you offer some backstory? Was it found or purchased? If purchased, what were you told about this object? Have you confirmed it's gold?
Don..

Hi Don! Thanks for your reply. That's not my coin. You know that my best gold coin I have ever found is broken in five pieces and one of them is missing. :unhappysmiley:
The owner pretends that he found it metal detecting and he has not any idea what it can be. Before considering to purchase it I wanted to have some opinions.

In my humble opinion, putting aside the question of whether it is or isn't gold, that's a modern fantasy piece.

It seems to have borrowed as many pieces of coinage/medallic symbolism from the Greek Empire as the maker could muster. None of the legends/inscriptions make any sense and there is a weird combination of characters that don't belong to the same period and/or are misrepresented.

Throw in Alexander the Great cavorting with the Greek Muses and you'd have the full set.

That's what I thought at first sight, a lot of nonsense symbols but I thought that I would regret if I was wrong. :)

Some of the letters are backwards and I suspect that this is some kind of medal meant to be sold to tourists at an ancient site.

:)

That's why it is so special and nobody can ID it. :) That's what I think too, a fake one.

You are right, it looks like they are fighting to take the throne. If it was real it should be very old but as it was a medallion it shouldn't be damaged.
