I like to hunt for quartz rocks off side the rail road tracks close to my house. And I was so excited to hopefully find some quartz with some possible Gold inside?? With some mica too. Really hard to tell in pics. Certainly possible. Looks like some type of pyrite, but hard to tell in pics. You could take it to a jewelry store or maybe a rock and gem shop for testing. Or if there is maybe a mine and mineral museum close to you, they would be able to tell. Acid tests or crush and pan are also methods to verify if you have gold. Dennis

Looks like pyrite, pick it with a needle point.. if it flakes / chips / cracks it ain't gold.

Gold and mica aren't usually deposited in the vein together, probably pyrite. I've found gold with silver and copper in the ore, never mica or pyrite but crushing it is the best way to know for certain.

Crush and pan is a start. May try a magnet for any iron. Then look under glass. May not hurt to try a metal detector as well.

Bottom line? We don't know from your photo. If it is a "specimen" of gold, you don't want to crush it. Just take it to a jeweler and they will scratch test it free. If it is pyrite, sell it as a pyrite specimen.:skullflag:
