Hi there, I am fairly new to this forum. I have been metaldetecting for about 6 or 7 years now, but I still have not found any gold. I have found a lot of gold plated stuff, but nothing actually gold. Does anyone have any tips for hunting for gold? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

I have found 7-8 gold plated pieces of jewelry and two 10k rings.Maybe that's the ratio to expect.I don't know. But the second 10k ring I found in my own back yard, testing a new coil. And that after testing detectors (4or5) of them in the same yard over a 25 year period. You never know when or where it will happen.I look for old coins mostly, but when that odd soft sound is heard I dig and twice it's been GOLD!And you can make a cool chain out of all the pull tabs in the mean time! GOOD LUCK!

If you want to find gold, you are going to have to dig the trash. Look in your pouch is there foil, pulltabs, and nickles in there? If not chances are you wont be finding much gold either. Most gold is in the tinfoil through pull tab range. When Bobbie and I go to a place especially if it is a new one for us we pay close attention to the finds if we are finding nickles and small pieces of foil then we know there is a good potential for some gold to be found.
Next where are you looking we know the beaches, parks, schoolyards all have potential.
How are you hunting the area? We have seen a lot of folks basically sprint to the area check around the equipment and then head on to the next spot. Check the areas around the outer perimeter both inside and outside the play area, rememeber that the kids have to get in there some how.
Lastly be persistant, improve your technique and above all else know your machine. know it inside out. A lot of times we all get caught up in getting the latest and best machine. But the machine that is going to bring home the gold more times often is the one that you use and know the best. Example my wife has been detecting with me for the last 4 years she has used only one machine during that time and refuses to try anything else. Now we have 3 of these units in case hers breaks and she has to use the back up briefly.
She knows her machine and how it will perform, she knows she can find good stuff with it and that is all that matters to her
good luck in chasing the gold and if we help you let us know

Thanks for all your help, I am about to go out there for the first time this year (beautiful 60 degree weather). I will post my finds, if any. Wish me luck! Thanks, and HH!
