Daughter and I got metal detectors for fun this xmas, and went out yesterday to a local playground with woodchips to find some coins (I had friends in the hobby years ago, and recalled this as a place to go for quick coinage and instant gratification. I got a Garret 150, and I found this guy after about 45 minutes. From what I understand it is a Solvar Irish Claddaugh ring, 14k yellow gold, and about a size 4. Solvar Irish Ring

No idea how to determine actual worth, but my metal detector just paid for itself I think? :) I can't read the righting on the side, looks like the S model of the ring perhaps? (edit looks like maybe this is the original text) j311316.jpg QVC Detailed Pics

Daughter was using Bounty Hunter BHJS Junior Metal Detector, seemed ok, but the 150 seemed to be much more fun to use. Already considering upgrading to a 250 or 350, or Fisher F2. -- I will be mostly using this in Charleston, SC for both civil war and beach activity, so any input for a detector sub 500$ is welcome.

Fisher F2 is a awesome machine and has a notch feature. I think it is the best deal going for below $500.

Since I live near the beach, would it make sense to get a Garret AT Pro so I can search in the water?

Congrats on the gold... The AT Pro is great machine for water hunting and relic hunting, don't think you can go wrong for the price.

That is what I am going to buy in the spring, I really like the idea it can get wet and still be ok.

Nice gold ring! Welcome to the hobby. :occasion14: Hope you find alot more!

Very nice! Congrats on your first gold. Enjoy the addiction :)

Not many are lucky enough to find gold the first time out. WTG!

Great job, I would go for the AT Pro. I have the ace 350 and I am thinking of getting the etrac. But you just have to weigh out your options and see what you can afford and if you are going to use it. Again great find and happy hunting!
