With all the bags of jewelry I buy I sometimes run across gold fill jewelry. I use to take it to the local cash for gold place and had a nice easy transaction.

Well I called today and found that they no longer buy gold fill items.

So I am sitting here with 56 grams of a mix of 1/20. 12k and 14k

Where do you guys sell your gold fill items (besides eBay )

Here is my small pile

Most people treat GF items as though it were sterling. I cant imagine that we buy gold place was paying you very much for your GF stuff?

There are some refiners that will purchase it if you have 500 g minimum. Otherwise just bundle up and sell it on eBay

I was getting about $25 per Troy oz of 1/20 14k

This may have been when gold was higher.. I remember 26.00 an ounce Sterling.. But my buyer has never been over $17.00/ozt for gold filled.

Not sure why they were paying so much. But it was a local chain place called treasure hunt. They are not one of those cheap little cash for gold places that pop up here and there. They have been around for 20 years.
Probably why they don't buy it anymore lol

My local place buys and sells on EBay. They paid me 50 cents a gram. He pretty much matches close or more than what I can get on eBay without me having to pay the fees. And pays 85% of spot for gold. I sell stuff every now and then if it's not moving on the bay and I want it gone.

I know it's not the best deal you can make, but I just ebay what I accumulate as they're are always buyers who'll take what ever quantity you throw out there. Maybe when I retire I'll setup my own little refinery and make little ingots out of the scrap gold and silver one can find out and about, just for something to do when the world is done with me :dontknow: I don't want to golf, I don't want to hunt, I don't want to fish or drive an RV. I just want to keep looking for treasure of any kind and anywhere I find it. To bad I won't have enough to buy all the stuff needed to head out to sea and look for a sunken Spanish Gallon full of riches, but still those will be my old man dreams.

You have to have quite a dangerous setup to refine your own metals. Lots of scary chemicals. I have talked to a few people who have tried it. My understanding is, you really need to scale it for it to be financially viable, too.

The idea came to me when some of those who bought my GF scrap were also buying the replacement recharge salts for these systems by I. Shor Intl' https://www.ishor.com/ Not so sure if it works as they claim? I have refined placer gold with a homemade mercury black pipe retort outside my place in the mountains in the early 80's, but yet the concentrate I was refining wasn't enough for a good gold yield over the cost of the mercury, danger and hassle of it all.
