Hey guys I am curious who has found a gold quarter, half, eagle or double eagle in IL. I know there has to be some. Do we even leave ourselves open to finding one or do we have it discriminated out because of pull tabs?

I would love to see one on here this year!

Here are the target IDs for Explorer and then the etrac that I got from findmall... let's see who can grab some gold!

US gold 1 dollar 09-05 11/12-11
US gold 2.5 dollar 08-11 12-22
US gold 5 dollar 07-22 12-31
US gold 10 dollar 07-26 12-38
US gold 20 dollar 04-28 13-44

I think all those except the 12-22 are naturally dig signals for me. I will dig or try to dig a 12-22 if it sounds promising or deep. My question is since Gold is a higher density than Silver, do Gold coins make their way deeper into the ground? I might have to buy that 18x15 coil (the 15x12 seems big enough...)

Also, I know he is off t-net, but I think L4S said Mr. Senior dug at least 2 US Gold and some foreign Gold as well.

This is a good challenge. I'd love to see an Eagle or two come up.

Too bad we can't hunt country clubs. Rich golfers back in the day may have lost these, but in general that was both a lot of money and Gold coins never got very much circulation.

I don't know if gold sinks quicker than silver... I would guess not by much. I read that half eagles were popular stocking stuffers back in the day which means kids had them and had to have lost them! Also read that when Henry Ford came up with the $5 work day people were cashing checks in for gold eagles.

At my local park I used to be able to count on a couple silvers per week but that is slowing down fast. Going to have train myself to listen for potential gold signals. I'm sure the junk bag will fill up faster but I'll dig as much junk as it takes to score an eagle!

MrS has found two here in the U.S.. Can't remember what denomination they were, but it was a really long time ago too. I know he found one in the late 80's, and the other one around the mid 90's.

Last one I herd about was found in an Elgin park 4yrs ago or so in a pile of fill dirt. On my hard drive I have piv of the placement of the coins (I don't use VDI numbers on my Explorer)
