Gold & Diamond Anniversary present
Today was my 5th year wedding anniversary. My wife
and I went to Oak Island NC yesterday (where we got married) for the day. We drove around and looked at the church and the reception location, the restaurant where we had our rehearsal dinner and the bar where I had my bachelor party.
After all that reminiscing we finally hit the beach! After hauling all our gear to our site and setting it up, I was too tired to do any detecting. NOT!!!!!
I fired up the Tesoro and got right to it. I found plenty of bottle caps and can slaw. I even found a Bud Lite can buried at about 1 1/2 feet. I got a pretty good signal up by the high tide line, it turned out to be a stainless steel wine tool. That's a keeper! I hunted about an hour and took a break for lunch. After some shrimp cocktail and a Land Shark (my favorite beach lunch) I got right back to it. There was an awful lot of beer cans on that end of the beach. There was an area where someone had built a campfire at some time. I hunted all around that area....more beer cans. I turned up the disc and proceeded to check between the water line and the fire pit. Finally I got a good signal! I used my homemade sand scoop and went to town. After about my 4th scoop of sand and 12 or so inches, I heard the clatter of metal. Boy was I surprised! My first gold! No happy dance. I am always skeptical of my finds (I hoped it was real)
It was a small ladies ring with 2 rows of 6 diamonds! After closer inspection I saw the 14K inscribed on the inside. I had an idea
so I put it in my pocket and continued finding trash. Of course I did not mention it to my wife.
This morning I took the ring to a jeweler friend of mine. He confirmed it was real gold and almost 2 carats worth of diamonds (SI1-SI2, G-H)worth almost $3000.... Now the happy dance!
I had him polish it up, put it in a nice box with a little gift wrap and I presented it to my wife during dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant. Of course I told her where I got it and that I was going to try to find the owner. She agreed 100%.
(We think alike.) Although there are no initials inscribed on it, I will do some research on Monday and try to find the owner. If no one claims it then my wife will have a nice 5 year anniversary gift!
