Dont you hate when you know you have seen something before and cant remember where????Like these coins .....Oh ,yes..now I remember.....every night in my dreams....LOL.....and I will take a wild stab at this ....8 reale from the wreck of the Vliegenthart..... ;)

I think that those coins where minted some time between 1572-1733.

Treasure hunta ;D

I have a coin similar to those shown but in silver. In Central America we call them "macacos". An old coin's expert in New Orleans told me that mine was from the Potosi mine in Mexico and that the irregular shape is because they were rolled out (like cookie dough) then cut. thus distorting the sides.

The silver ones are rather common here, but I haven't seen a gold one.

Spanish Escudo Gold Cob Coin, larger than a USA Quarter dollar, minted 1622-1756 in Viceroy of Nuero Granada, South America at the Spanish mint of Nuero Reino, under King Philip V of Spain.

The filename helped give it away ;)
