Karat gold jewelery will pit over time in saltwater as the alloys leach out.
(This takes a long time, seen in 19th century/earlier pieces)
Gold Coins a generally almost pure, so they won't.
Think you have an IH Cent, looks like many i've found in saltwater,
trace of wreath is all that remains (photo #1)

Copper cents disintegrate under the right conditions -I have several.

It's a 1/2 cent..now -lol
