After a hot humid day of working all day on a metal roof , I didn't feel much like metal detecting....but...I was thinking about my friend's plantation that he welcomed me to hunt. Needless to say , the desire for a quick hunt outweighed my exhaustion. The evening weather quickly cooled down as t-storms were brewing. It rained briefly and stopped , so I drove the 3 or 4 miles to his place and gave the area a quick scan. First item was a shotgun shell. Second target was a suspender buckle with the words "GOLD COIN" stamped in it. I perceived this as a good omen. Initially i thought it was a medal hanger for some sort of gold coin and thought i was getting another reading in the hole. Turned out to be a false reading ( or wishful thinking on my part ). I found some pull tabs , can slaw , sardine cans , mason jar lids, more shotgun shells ..then a sweet reading....turned out to be a 1965 quarter,,,,missed silver by 1 yr. By now , it's almost getting dark. One more reading near the truck is a small brass buckle. Not a bad little hunt. There is a lot of history at this place dating back to the 1700's and i think it will yield some nice relics and/ or coins.
