A friend stopped by yesterday and she was wearing this coin as a necklace. She said she bought it at a garage sale for $2. A beautiful gold coin which she knew is very valuable. She had it made into a necklace and wears it everywhere.

She should get it slabbed. Never clean it with anything just send it in to pcgs and get it slabbed. It could fall out of that necklace mounting. It could get damaged. Foolish to dangle it around like that. Gold will become much more valuable soon. That's a tremendous garage sale find but it should not be worn as a necklace. It will become damaged and value will certainly be lost over time. Also it will likely get lost. Necklaces are lost every day for many reasons or it might just fall out of the mounting.

You’re all too quick with your congratulations. The color isn’t right in that coin. Compare the color to my real half eagle. The denticles aren’t right either. Denticles are the little dots around the rim. Look at the ribbon on the reverse with “In God We Trust”, you can’t hardly read the letters. Really bad!😝 Sorry, but I think it’s a fake half eagle.
The first thing that should be done is put it on a good digital scale. It should weigh 8.359 grams. If the weight checks out I’ll change my tune. As of now I wouldn’t count on it being real.
