Gold (?) Chain and a '35 Merc

I went back to the abandoned athletic field and found a couple more wheats and a nice 1935 Mercury dime. I also found a chain that I believe might be gold. There are no markings on any of the links but it came out clean with no patina. I've found a handful of coins at this site and nothing newer than the 1970's so if the chain was copper or brass I feel like it would be discolored. It rang up in the "foil" range on my detector.

Anyway, it's only about 4" long with no clasp so it must have been part of a longer chain. I couldn't locate any more pieces today but maybe I'll find the rest of it next time!

Looks like it may have been part of a fob watch chain, but if not still looks 9kt to me

FINE FINDS .......

Congrats on pulling that Merc and my fingers are crossed that the links turn out to be the real deal. :occasion14:

Time for a test kit use!!!

i would bet that style chain is 10k

Update: I picked up an acid test kit and the chain comes in somewhere between 14k and 18k. It weighs about 5 grams so it turned out to be a nice find!

Nice piece of chain and getting the Merc. Now the nagging question would be "Is there more chain somewhere on the field?"

when you put the acid on the test line drop a pinch of table salt in the acid if the line goes away it is 14k if not then it is 18k
