Hi all,

I got this pin in a box I bought from an auction. I seem to remember a beaver pin being posted before belonging to a fraternity or college or something, but can't for the life of me find the thread. There are markings on the base of the pin, the is a Copyright symbol, then some initials, then below the initials either the numbers 238 or 738. Can anybody tell me about these markings or the provenance of the pin?

Thanks,

Re: Gold? Beaver Pin

Kevo, I believe your pin is fashioned after a Canadian Beaver Pin. Since it has the copyright symbol and initials, more than likely it is gold over-lay. Around the turn of the century, there was a military unit made up of Canadians, which was essentially a British unit. I don't think your pin is military, but was probably 'fashioned' after the military ones. Yours looks to be a hat tack and modern, perhaps the 1950s-70s. Neat find, Breezie

Breezie I was thinking hat pin as well but the back kind of leads me away from that idea. I wear fedoras regularly and if I had that pin on it the back would hurt my tinder head.

How about a tie tack? But yes, there are hat pins with that uncomfortable pin back - you have to be careful not to put pressure on it. (I have several scout pins that are that way.)
