Sunday was a fun day! I hunted Daytona Beach with my new hunting buddy, D.R. We really put in some time; about seven hours by the time I called it quits. When all was said and done, I'd found an enormous 10K high school ring, a nice silver band ring - which fits me nicely!, a beautiful, ornate, chandelier-type silver earring with what I guess are CZ's, a 1962 (silver) quarter and a wheatie! Of course there was a lot of trash and a number of clads, too... but all in all it was my best day at the beach yet!
Let me tell you about the ring - did I mention that it's HUGE?! I could put two of my fingers inside it. As you can see, it has a large "G" on the front (with two tiny diamonds(?). I've got his name: Robert Jean Trost. There's "Trost" on one side and a football helmet with his number "64" and the letters "OL" sculpted below. The other side of the ring says "Panthers". There's a cross with a sort of laurel wreath below. "2005" shows on the face of the ring, so it hasn't been lost all that long. So I'm trying to find a high school that begins with a "G" and has the Panthers as their mascot. I tried to google the kid's name - no luck. Ring isn't listed as a lost high school ring on the website, either. Suggestions?

I found the owner! Truthfully, all the detective work was done by Bill, aka Garrettman64. Thanks, Bill! He contacted the ring company and learned that Mr. Trost had gone to Gateway High School in Kissimmee, Florida - about an hour and a half from my home. (Same school suggested by both Baddog and BoobyDoo - thanks, guys!) Bill was given an old phone number, but thanks to the internet, I found another listing and called it today. A few hours later the owner's Dad called me back; he'd just been soaking in a hot tub in Costa Rica! He "called" through his computer phone and told me that his son would be truly delighted to be reunited with his ring. According to Dad, the kid never was in Daytona (where I found it) and he thought that the ring had been stolen from a Dr.'s office. Sounded odd... but hey, he's getting his ring back! Dad asked me to include all of my info., too... I told him I'd love to see a pic of his son wearing the ring so I could post it here. I'll mail the ring tomorrow - and then we'll see. Thanks again for all your input and kind words.... Oh, and yes, you can still drive on the beach at Daytona. I almost stepped in front of a car last weekend; it's kinda hard to hear them coming with headphones on!
