Gold and Silver Sunday! UPDATE!

Sunday was a fun day! I hunted Daytona Beach with my new hunting buddy, D.R. We really put in some time; about seven hours by the time I called it quits. When all was said and done, I'd found an enormous 10K high school ring, a nice silver band ring - which fits me nicely!, a beautiful, ornate, chandelier-type silver earring with what I guess are CZ's, a 1962 (silver) quarter and a wheatie! Of course there was a lot of trash and a number of clads, too... but all in all it was my best day at the beach yet!
Let me tell you about the ring - did I mention that it's HUGE?! I could put two of my fingers inside it. As you can see, it has a large "G" on the front (with two tiny diamonds(?). I've got his name: Robert Jean Trost. There's "Trost" on one side and a football helmet with his number "64" and the letters "OL" sculpted below. The other side of the ring says "Panthers". There's a cross with a sort of laurel wreath below. "2005" shows on the face of the ring, so it hasn't been lost all that long. So I'm trying to find a high school that begins with a "G" and has the Panthers as their mascot. I tried to google the kid's name - no luck. Ring isn't listed as a lost high school ring on the website, either. Suggestions????
Ruth

I found the owner! Truthfully, all the detective work was done by Bill, aka Garrettman64. Thanks, Bill! He contacted the ring company and learned that Mr. Trost had gone to Gateway High School in Kissimmee, Florida - about an hour and a half from my home. (Same school suggested by both Baddog and BoobyDoo - thanks, guys!) Bill was given an old phone number, but thanks to the internet, I found another listing and called it today. A few hours later the owner's Dad called me back; he'd just been soaking in a hot tub in Costa Rica! He "called" through his computer phone and told me that his son would be truly delighted to be reunited with his ring. According to Dad, the kid never was in Daytona (where I found it) and he thought that the ring had been stolen from a Dr.'s office. Sounded odd... but hey, he's getting his ring back! Dad asked me to include all of my info., too... I told him I'd love to see a pic of his son wearing the ring so I could post it here. I'll mail the ring tomorrow - and then we'll see. Thanks again for all your input and kind words.... Oh, and yes, you can still drive on the beach at Daytona. I almost stepped in front of a car last weekend; it's kinda hard to hear them coming with headphones on!

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Suggestion??? Hey enjoy your find! ;D ;D ;D That is a really nice ring! If you want to try to find him try a site called zabasearch.com...I think that is it!

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Nice haul! I wish there were more beaches where I live.

A thought on the class ring. The cross makes me think it is prolly a catholic school. So it might be in the area.

That's my 2 wheats

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

YeeHaw.
Having been there first hand, I've got to say the pictures do them justice.
You sure ruled the beach that day.
I bow before you...... til next time. LOL

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

That's a very good day indeed!
Did you guys work the tide in and out or hunt in the dry sand?

Congratulations!

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Unless he's got a body shop on Orange Blossom Terrace in Kissimmee, I didn't find much. Found the name associated with a Courtesy Collission Center.

In any case, nice haul!

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Very cool finds. Congrats.

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Thanks for all the nice words - and you guys were so sweet to do a bit of the detective work for me! I checked out the website for the Gateway Panthers - I'll see if I can contact someone there about our Mr. Trost. The school is in Florida, but hey, Daytona is the world's most famous beach; the visitors come from all over the world... And during Spring Break? Fuggetaboutit! But, maybe he is a Florida boy.
Oh - and I had a similar thought about the cross being indicative of a religious institution, but two of my (younger!) coworkers said they see that symbol on a lot of secular school rings too. So, maybe our theory won't hold water.
Speaking of water... and since you asked: I found the ring in dry sand about 30 feet from the sea wall. The silver ring and earring were found high up in the wet sand of the lane.
Thanks again for all the help!

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

I worked in Daytona in a younger life. Had not even thought of MDing back then. The only machine I took to the beach was my car. Dang. :-\
Hey Saintsea, can you still drive the strand? We used to go down at night, just to watch the idiots fall out of truck beds. ;)

Re: Gold and Silver Sunday!

Nice ring for sure
