DAY 1
I went back to the small town park where I found the 2 silver rings not long ago. I started working the abandoned baseball field (no more litttle league, not enough kids in town) but after about an hour and a half I had to move elsewhere in the park because the guys came and started moving the grass.
I spent a total of 4.5 hours with the CZ21 and found 101 coins with a face value of $6.14, a railroad penny (placed on the tracks and squashed), an aluminum button, a stainless steel watch back, a few tabs, lots of can slaw and a few whole cans. The gas money was ok, but not much else interesting. Maybe I’ll have better luck next trip.
DAY 2
I only got 1 day at the school this week. I am continuing the grid on the field where I found the 3 civil war bullets and the 2 silvers last week. It was a busy day so I only got 4.5 hours to hunt. I managed to find 32 coins with a face value of $1.50, a wheatie, a 1964 silver Rosie, another small piece of camp lead, part of a game tab can lid, a hose connector, a weird ring and the usual assortment of can slaw, tabs and foil with a little aluminum fence wire for good measure.
When I dug the ring I thought it was scrap brass or copper and had been melted. When I cleaned the dirt off I could see it was a curved plate with heavy chain attached at both ends forming a ring. It is heavily encrusted and looks like it has been in the ground a long time. My best guess is 1950s or 60s. I might use electrolysis on it and see how it does just out of curiosity. I don’t think it is old enough to have any antique value.
Not much scenery here in town where the school is, but I did manage to get a few bugs to stay still on a queen Anne’s lace flower long enough to get a picture (the honey bees, sweat bees and bumblebees moved around too fast for a picture).
DAY 3
I went back to the park by the pool again hoping for some goodies and again no luck. I did manage to find a decent number of coins (60 coins with a face value of $5.20) in my 4.5 hours swingin the CZ21, but other than that only a chromed brass cap, an aluminum cross, a small compact top, tabs and can slaw. I also found 8 Boy Scout camp sized tent pegs that were used to hold down the backside of the soccer goals, but definitely not special finds. An ok hunt though.
DAY 4
I took my weekly trip to the scout camp. I started working areas of the cub scouts camp and in 6 hours I found 157 coins with a face value of $16.01, 28 camp tent pegs, a GI type can opener, a working flashlight (nice bright one too), 11 rope tensioners, 3 neckerchief slides, 3 sinkers, a 1 year pin, an Olympic hat pin, a screw driver bit, an elastic bracelet (LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION), 2 aluminum carabiners, a working knife, 5 Cub Scout belt loops, a knife holder for your belt, a bent up mess kit knife, a few tabs, foil and melted aluminum from the fires.
One of the coins is a dollar coin so that helped the dollar value of the hunt. The 5 belt loops are from 2 different series. The new series, Tigers in the wild, Cubs who care and Duty to god footsteps. The older series 2 loops, Good Manners and art. The end slides are both Webelos slides. The middle slide is an older style general Cub Scout slide (made before they started using different slides for each year in cubs).
DAY 5
I did one of the swimming areas at the local park. The water level keeps dropping, but this year they moved the swim ropes further out as the water level went down so at the deepest part the water is still chin deep. I arrive at sunrise and detect until people start building up so I stay out of their way. I don’t get in peoples way as I detect and most of the time they want to watch and so questions, but the park management thinks detecting might bother people so I get out before they have to tell me to leave to stay in their good book so I can keep detecting there.
In 4 hours I managed to find 46 coins with a face value of $4.59, 3 tabs, 2 selfie stick retainers, sinkers, assorted jewelry including earring backs, an aluminum back closure and of course foil from wrappers and bottle seals.
The good jewelry include a crucifix, an earring, 2 rings, a dolphin charm or pendant and an earring back. The crucifix is marked 1/20 14k GF so it is only gold fill, but it is better than nothing. The earring is marked ITALY 585 so it is 14k. The big ring is marked STERLING and has what looks like a phoenix as a makers mark. The dolphin and the earring back are both marked 925. The thin ring I thought might be stainless, but it turns out it is 18k. A real good day for me.
Day 6
I went back to the same park again and worked in another swimming area. In this one they moved the center of the rope out further, but left the corners in place so the ends were short and shallow and the center was longer and deep. It only took me 3.5 hours to finish this one and no people arrived so all was good.
All together I found 55 coins with a face value of $5.00, a brass chain, 4 earrings, 2 rings, a set of magnetic earrings, a tiny bead, 4 earring backs, a clasp, a cz holder, 4 sinkers, only one tab, James the red engine and as always foil.
The gold ring is the only goodie from this hunt, but it is a nice one. It is 14k and reads MIS 15 ANOS, translates to my 15 years. Some poor girl lost her quinceanera ring. It is a little out of round, but this a fun find.
I got out more and had a better week this week with good gas money, gold and silver and a nice variety of scout items. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.
PS I forgot to mention, the water hunts were done with my ATPro.
