I posted this in the Shipwreck forum earlier but I thought I would share it with you here as well

Well I finally got out to one of our favourite sites. We haven't been able to get there much this summer due to one thing or another but mostly sea conditions. Today was just at our limits with a 4-6 ft swell and some big chop on the top which did me in after the first dive. I was feeding the fishes faster then you can say puke. Four of us got out but nothing came up on the first dive, on the second dive 2 were still tough enough to make back in the water and for one of the crew it was good he did. He came up with an 1817 Sixpence and a 1853 gold full sovereing.
Some other goodies came up as well but these were the finds of the day, for sure.
Happy hunting everyone and dont forget to feed the fish

I've never done any dive hunting before but it definitely sounds like a lot of fun. Great finds there ZDD. Congrats to you and your dive buddies.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that Maine has laws that prevent people from removing artifacts from the water. (not like that would stop anyone from recovering a gold coin if they found it, would it?)

Great to see results of the dives, hope to see more like pics in the future.

Wow - shipwreck gold! It doesn't get any better than that. Thanks for sharing Dave.

It just blows me away, some of the great finds I see on here. Very nice coins. Like to see that gold all cleaned up.

Thanks Bill, I can tell you the sea doesn't give up her treasure easily. But I can't wait to get back down to the bottom. The guy that found this was working about 3 ft from where I was so I am hopefull I am in a good spot.

The coins are everywhere, I just can't get over it where I find them at and people are walking over them all the time and just don't know it. Or swiming over them like the gold and treasures that are still being found just off shore on the Florida Treasure Coast.

Cleaning these gold coins is a bit of a process, sometimes they come up nice and clean but ones like this will have to be cleaned very carefully. That black concreation that is stuck to it is hard and doesn't come off with out a fight. Sometimes we have to resort to sulfuric acid.
