Gold and Silver but what is it? (pics)

My MDing buddy found this at soccer field in Virginia over the weekend. He has found more than $15 worth of clad at the same site including a JFK half, as well as two wheats and a 14k gold wedding band.

It has '.925' on the back along with '585'.

It looks like a broken ring that was kinda flattened out... can you offer some kind of size reference?

Sorry for no size reference. The top part with the stone is about 12 mm and the small end piece is hinged to the main part.

If that is a hinge, then I would guess a clip on earring.

I understand that the .925 is the silver content but does anyone know what the '585' refers to? It's heavy could it be the quality of the golf colored metal (ie. 10K, 14K, ect)?

585 would be 14k gold.
