Multi-freq's are no good for meteorites. You need a Pulse Induction for deep ones, and a high-kHz single freq for 0" - 12" in depth. Look for a machine that operates at at least 17kHz.

The best metal detectors for meteorites are those made for gold prospecting, as they are designed to be extremely sensitive, and operate at higher frequencies. My personal favorite metal detector for hunting meteorites is the Fisher Gold Bug 2, which is also an excellent machine for gold. But like I said; pretty much any metal detector designed for gold prospecting will be good at locating meteorites.

Thanks for the info. After reading your replies I researched a bit more, and pulse induction is the way to go. I do like the Gold bug II, if I wasn't concerned about depth. Shallow detection isn't my problem. As for a more expensive deep detector, which interests me more. It made me think that I would be limited on where to detect. Digging anything deep, that's not private land, isn't legal.

Is All metal the best setting for the F75 when meteorite hunting in the desert?

I would say yes for sure. You don’t want any discrimination especially if hunting for iron. Meteorites contain iron.

Searching in the all-metal mode is exactly how you want to search for meteorites.

I have a friend that uses a F75 in Western Kansas....his goal are meteorites.
