Hi,

I am going to take my family on a trip to New Mexico, just outside of Cimarron on the Old Santa Fe Trail area. We are driving from Santa Clara California and I wanted to know if there are any great places to stop and visit (detect in other words). I was hoping to find some old locations where we can find small treasures to remember our trip with (no, not souvenir shops). I was wondering if anyone of you out there have any ideas for us.

We are leaving on the 17th, will arrive in Cimarron by the 22nd, and will leave Cimarron on the 30th. From Home we are going to travel Interstate 80 to Reno, then to Salt lake, then to Colorado Springs, then to the Cimarron area (Boy Scout Ranch).

When we leave Cimarron, we are going to head south toward Albequeqe (boy, I need to look that one up), then east toward Phoenix, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, then Home again.

Any ideas woudl be much appreciated.

Thanks,

david

David: Alberquerque is pronounced Alber-ker-key. You and your family are in
for a wonderful adventure. I presume you will be staying at Philmont? I wish
you could read the book "Philmont A history of New Mexico's Cimarron Country"
If BSA will allow you to MD there Mt Baldy is the site of NM's first gold rush.
Don't miss the Eliabethtowm museum about 5 miles north of Eagle Nest.
Phoenix is out of your way or did you want to see it? If you do the gold country
of the Bradshaw Mtns are just north all the way to Prescott. From there to Flag
is the mining town of Jerome and Sedona. The quick way is Highway to Flagstaff.
Do all the research you can before leaving of all your stop points for historic sites.
There are so many along your route I can't list them all but if you know where you
will stay overnight research them well and you will soon have a full schedule.
Best wishes and let me know if you have questions about specific locations.
