WWL.com Reporting
New Orleans Police say things did not go smoothly for a couple of robbery suspects in Bayou St. John after one of their intended victims pulled a gun on them.
The two suspects are now in custody, and the NOPD is looking for a third suspect in connection with the attempted robbery
According to police, two people were walking to a parked car in the 3100 block of Ursulines Avenue around 9:00 p.m. Thursday when they were approached by three people.
Police say the gunmen asked both victims to get on the ground, but that didn't happen.
An attorney for one of the intended victims says his client's first thought was to protect his female companion, which he did by pushing her to the ground. He then turned a gun on his attackers and fired a couple of warning shots.
Police say the trio started running towards Bayou St. John after they were shot at, and dropped a clue that linked one of them to the attempted crime.
Early Friday night, cops canvassed the area and arrested two of the suspects.
Police say 18-year-old Aaron Smith and 17-year-old Hakeem Carter were taken into custody in the 1000 block of Hagan Street, not far from where shots were fired. They both face two counts of attempted armed robbery.
Police are still looking for a third suspect, described an African-American male, with a tall build and thin long dreadlocks with bleached tips.
