Goals

I find that I am much more enthusiastic about detecting when I have a goal. Each time I go out I set my expectations and set a goal based on those expectations. If it is a new site and I will probably only find clad I set a clad goal. If I am in an older area I set a keeper goal. I also have mental goals that I have set for the year. I think it is good for us newbies to see some of the goals that the well seasoned detectorist has set for themselves. Here are my goals for the year.

2 pre 1900 coins
100 silver coins ( 45 so far )
1 gold ring
200 wheat cents ( 110 so far)
5 indian coins ( 3 so far)
5 barber coins ( 3 so far )
10 silver rings ( 3 so far )
1 chain (silver or gold )

What are/were your goals for the year?

in my first year of detecting i was lucky enough to meet a lot of my goals. whenever i go out, a silver coin is always a goal. even if it is just 1 roosevelt. i do have some bigger goals i would like to reach this coming year;

-a seated coin of any variety
-a cache
-a standing liberty quarter
-an indian head penny (believe it or not i have not found one!)
-a capped bust or draped bust coin of any variety
-a morgan or peace dollar
-any silver half
that prolly sums it up for this year. looks like i have my work cut out for me!

Hmm, Must be nice to be able to aim so high. I would like to find a silver coin. Ever. But part of the fun is each time I dig, I think, "this could be it!" So far, five months of trying, nothing older than 1960. Of course Oregon is newer than a lot of states, but still, you'd think there would be some older stuff around somewhere.

Best wishes to you; I hope you achieve those lofty goals!

Those are some pretty good goals -- would have included a seated myself, but think I would just be setting myself up for dissapointment. Keep us updated :)

Plenty of silver in Oregon -- can't be much worse than Idaho -- keep at it the silver will come.

I guess I'll shoot for my second gold coin this year. Took three years to get the first one. This is my sixth year of hunting now. I must be due. Anything else will be gravy.

My goal is to find OLD silver....a barber or a seated anything.

It's been a great year so far for me though.....five coins, only one if them is modern. Two large cents, 1880 indian, 1923 mercury dime and a memorial penny. But I just want a Barber....or a seated! ;)

For my lofty goal, I'd like to find a type set (one of each) of pre 1900 and an Oklahoma or Indian Territory token.
