Found this beside a stone lined spring deep in the woods it looks like volcano magma after it has dried, but , in NC we have no volcanoes and this piece weighs about 50 pounds. Any input on what type stone, or what it is will be appreciated. I for one have no clue what it is, so, I say it is the top of a totem pole I found.

Dunno but water can do some interesting things to stone. ... top of a totem pole?..really? Why would you tell people something like that? Here's a totally natural stone I found near a stream. Do you carry everything home? LOL.

Dang, you have a totem pole too;) I tell people that As a joke. They know I'm kidding. Yes, I take most any unusual stone home. We all do I think;)

Ha ha... don't think I ever brought home a fifty pounder

That is heavy. However, I have never seen this type of stone around here. The line that goes around the top is straight. Mother nature didn't flip that rock, so that it would have a perfect "water line" last being by the spring, it could have been a water tool, ( weight net for crawfish) or an anvil or anchor. I personally think it is something, I just don't know what?

Sounds like there was probably a homestead near there. Pioneer or something.

If man didn't make it, God did. That's even better. That is what I always tell people that laugh at my imagination. I can't help it. Also, with some of my geofacts, I'll use it to dig my next geo up, and say" it's a tool now" loop holes every where. Lol
