glass globe with hole on top

I bought this at an estate sale thinking it was one of the old-time floats that they used for fishing nets. But when I got home and looked at it again, it looked too new....so it made me wonder if it could be possibly something else... Diameter 6". The glass is almost clear with a possible light green tint to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kurt
