went to a beach in front of a old 1800's home stead that was built on a old Indian village. we dug lots of stuff , any idea about the face button, there is a second one with the center busted out, both are set in a copper base. We found what look like lead arrowheads, 1 is to the left of the bigger lead peice.
. also there was a piece of lead that had 2 tiny brass nails. :icon_scratch:

Re: GLASS BUTTON

maybe a seal of some sort? Either way it is one of the coolest things I've seen on here all week. Is there a shank on it, or not?

Re: GLASS BUTTON

No we never found a shank, a seal is a interisting thought.
further down the beach we found some copper sheathing and we found a pad loch on the surface with bb on it. .

Re: GLASS BUTTON

I've been looking...

And am still looking...

It's the classic "Man On The Moon" face...

I'm not even sure it's a button... it may have been part of almost anything from jewelry to a vintage sun catcher.

Re: GLASS BUTTON

thanks for the help MONTANA JIM .
the site behind the beach was homesteaded by a Russian prospector in 1920 and his daughter still lives there now. in 1860 a white homesteader/trader lived on the site, before that is was a Indian village.
the face came from about 4 inches down, the layer appeared to be a beach midden with burnt gravel and shells mixed in, the ground is quite hard, seems cemented .. the lead came from the same layer. excited to go back.
a few years ago we found this old copper bracelet sticking out of some rocks near the beach.

I believe Jim is correct. Here's a similar one.

Monty - those are little brass pins, like the kind on the back of small items... the kind you use a "frog" as a backer.
