Glad to see Ebay changed it's top rated seller guideliens recently

Just seen a good amount drop off my bill and wondered what was going on. I used to be top rated but between a combination of always having to be concerned about those stupid DRS ratings, and them telling me I had to offer returns, I said screw it. Now apparently there's top rated, again, and top rated plus. I really have no idea when this changed, but if there was ever a month I could use a discount it was this one, so glad to see it's back. And now seeing my numbers are even better than before I know it's something I don't have to pay any attention too.... and if they go sour for a bit, it's no big deal because I was not expecting to have the discount again. When you sell a lot this definitely helps when the bill rolls around.

I'm confused. You still have to be "top rated plus" in order to get the 20% fvf discount. ?

Apparently not because I have the discount but am not top rated plus. I was quite surprised to see I had it again.

I think Ebay is doing a push to get sellers to increase their DSR's.
I got a note to that effect from EBay, then they took away my top seller status.
The lowest scores I had were in 2 categories, and they were 4.9 out of 5.
Go figure......

That's why I ignore it, because I do things the right way but there's little to no control over it. You can get up every day with a smile on your face, do everything that is humanly possible to be the best damn ebayer that ever sold on the site, yet a few random crazy or loser individuals can knock off your discount. I don't think buyers realize how leaving a bad rating can cost a seller hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of dollars per month by losing that discount.

I'll tell you what... I still support ebay as one of the best means to sell your stuff and I never complain about their fees. But I could give 2 hoots about their top rated seller DSR corporate nonsense. When they changed their model from an auction site to a "virtual storefront marketplace", that's when they lost me.

Not sure now, but I would have agreed with you on that back in the day, especially when the DRSs came out, because I didn't have a clue about them until I got caught with a negative during some time off and was restricted from selling for a month. I went in to the seller forum to see what was up, and there was people with freakin 10,000, 20,000 feedback who were caught the same, or in a similar way. I guess it's still true that the little guy who doesn't sell much can still be caught by this, but luckily for me it's not an issue. I always thought they should balance the ratings over a longer period of time instead of people guessing from month to month, and it was pretty stupid giving warnings because it's not really that easy to rapidly increase the positives just because you want to. Maybe they did make some changes for the better, but after I got through my month I never looked back. Other than that, I still think it's just as much an auction site as store sales, otherwise I would be done tomorrow because it's much tougher to make money buying fixed price stuff. I do it sometimes, but generally people who will give a price have a rough idea what it's worth.

I think that you have to offer returns AND have a 1 day "handling" time AS WELL AS be a top rated seller to get the 20% fee discount???? That is how I understand it anyway???

That is how I understood it as well. I offer those things and still got dumped on. :dontknow:

Yes, that's how it was, but the point I'm making is I have 3 day handling and no returns, but now have my 20% again... so something has changed, and I believe that change is ebay reverting back to the old top rated seller ways and offering extra to those who do the 1 day handling and returns. (top rated plus) I think 1 day handling is totally ridiculous, and has to be a guideline created by someone who has never been involved in shipping any amount of items in many different types of situations. Of course a buyer would have to be a real tool to leave you a low DSR because you took 2-3 days to send the item, but there's definitely enough tools on ebay to fill a very large tool box.

Huh? What extra can/do they have to offer for those (like myself) that offer the 1 day shipping and 14 day returns? I see no other benefit other than that stupid banner thing and the 20% discount I get every month. If your getting a discount and not offering it, then i'm not offering 1 day shipping or returns anymore either, screw that. I got no notices from these clowns about any changes regarding the top rated seller program since they changed it last spring/summer I believe it was.

By the way, just because you don't "offer" returns doesn't mean a buyer can't still get their money back if they want to.

I don't know what to tell you because I'm confused about this myself, but have no plans to check into it because I'll gladly take the discount.

On my page I do not have the top seller icon, but my dashboard clearly says I qualify, and have been given the 20%, and I am pretty sure I did see the reduction in my bill. I do not offer returns on any of the items I have on, and have all listed as 3 day handling. It's basically just like it was except for not having the icon, so I guess that's what you get extra now with the return policy and 1 day handling...a stupid icon! But again, I am happy to have that 20%.

From Ebay:

Top-rated seller benefits

Top Rated Sellers will receive increased visibility in Best Match search results for fixed-price listings, as well as recognition on their feedback profile page as having received the highest buyer ratings.

Top Rated Sellers will also be eligible for these additional benefits on any listings that offer a 1-day handling time and a 14-day-or-better return policy with a money-back option:

  • 20% discount on final value fees
  • Greatest boost, on average, in Best Match for fixed-price listings
  • A prominent Top Rated Plus seal

I have "Top Rated Plus" and get the above items. Not sure how you get the 20% discount without it?

No idea, but for one reason or another it will probably go as fast as it arrived.

I'm a little confused on this one myself but I do know that on occasion I have the power seller icon displayed yet I'm not a power seller. I have no problem offering returns because it shows honesty and buyers want that assurance.

As far as 1 day shipping...not a problem either. What that means to eBay is that you upload a tracking number within a day. Now that USPS doesn't use the old green delivery confirmation slips anymore, you'll have to upload the tracking from your receipt. I still have some of the old slips so if it takes 2 days to get to the post office I just scan one of the old slips to upload a tracking number then edit with the real one when it actually ships. Not a problem

I havnt used the new receipt style tracking yet. Wouldnt you simply plug in the number off the receipt just like you used to? I dont see how this would change?

I used to put the slips on before going to the P.O.
